Origin of Vasant Panchami

The mythological origin of Basant Panchami can is regarded as a popular belief within India, which started during the Aryan period. Aryans were the earlier civilization of India and settled near Khyber Pass, which was situated near the Sarasvati River. Aryans constructed their civilization beside this river and began celebrating this as a river of fertility and knowledge.

According to another concept, an Indian poet named Kalidasa once married a princess. Adding to this incident, Kalidasa was kicked out of bed knowing that she was deceived by marrying a foolish man. This led to a suicidal attempt near water and suddenly Saraswati emerged from the water and asked to take a dip in the water. After taking a dip in the river, Kalidasa became a knowledgeable poet, thus Vasant Panchami was started from this day.

During this fun festival, people do different types of activities and wear different types of dresses and traditional wear. You can see many types of color at this festival, but mainly the color yellow is seen everywhere. People are dressed in yellow, they offer flowers of yellow color.

This yellow color is the specialty of this festival it signifies the coming of spring and touch of nature. Girls and boys wear yellow saree and Punjabi and participate in various activities. The color of yellow doesn’t stop at flowers and dresses.
